Dear Fellow East Indians, July 20, 2004
We are pleased to inform you that our Executive Committee members visited the Office of the State Backward Class Commission, Maharashtra State at Pune on 1st July, 2004. We have submitted to them the O.B.C. Questionnaire duly filled in all respects and have obtained the acknowledgement from their office on our forwarding letter.
We have made this as a separate application so as not to be confused with any other application for the same.
The requisite information submitted to the State Backward Commission, as desired by them in their Questionnaire, of the East Indians pertaining to their education, domicile status, caste and sub-castes, language, area wise composition, trade, number of elected representatives, professionals, marriage, funeral and other social customs, type of houses, principal Gods, main pilgrim centers, below poverty line ration card holders etc., has been sourced from the Bombay Gazetteer, Old East Indian Souvenirs, Elsie Baptistas The East Indians and various other documents.
For specific information, we approached various resource persons from Mumbai, Vasai, Thane and Raigad. These resource persons were various village association representatives, village elders and our executive members. We explicitly thank these resource persons for their efforts in getting information of their entire village and area.
Since the term of the previous State Backward Class Commission is over, a new commission has to be appointed by the Government of Maharashtra.
We have stepped up our endeavors, to take up our cause with various Government functionaries, senior politicians, elected representatives and Government Departments seeking their support especially for appointment of a new Commission at the earliest to ensure our application is processed expeditiously.
The Under Secretary, Maharashtra State of the Department of Social Justice, Cultural and Sports in response to the letter of our President has written to the State Backward Class Commission to initiate immediate action in the matter. We are also exploring other avenues to ensure that our cause meets a favorable response.
We thank our spiritual directors for their guidance and blessings.
Finally we thank and call upon every East Indian to stand united with us in this noble cause of obtaining O.B.C. status for our community and we request you to extend every possible co-operation as may be needed and whenever called upon by our organization. Your valuable suggestions, advice will be highly appreciated. Kindly visit our website : www.east-indians.com
